Ski-Doo backlash

The Story

While Bombardier dominates the recreational snowmobile market, it also takes the brunt of a snowmobile backlash. In the early 1970s there's a mounting public outcry over the popular sport. Snowmobiles and their owners are blamed for causing noise pollution and environmental damage. Bombardier is also on the defensive over a mounting death toll from snowmobile accidents. In 1971 Bombardier responds to the criticism with a program called Operation SnoPlan, which promotes snowmobile safety and the development of groomed trails.
