2000: Pierre Trudeau dies at 80

The Story

He was loved by many and despised by some, but none could deny that Pierre Trudeau was a prime minister unlike any other. Sixteen years after he stepped down and returned to private life, Trudeau is dead at the age of 80. CBC's The National produced a special edition to mark Trudeau's passing on Sept. 28, 2000. In this report, Ottawa correspondent Jason Moscovitz takes a retrospective look at Trudeau's life in politics.
