Progress slow for working women in 1980

The Story

Susan Leonard can consider herself lucky: she doesn't get kicked out of the "Businessmen's Lunch" anymore, and she earns the same amount of money as her male counterparts in advertising. But for women working in the textile industry, pay equity is more elusive. Pattern cutter Salome Tsakonas says a janitor in her shop gets more money than a skilled sewing machine operator. In this 1980 special report from CBC's The National, three women discuss the progress -- and lack of it -- for women in the workplace and in the courts.
