Painter Rita Letendre on her work in 1969

The Story


Rita Letendre is in the Weekend studio with host Barry Callaghan, to talk about her work.  She begins her story with a discussion of her childhood, and why she began drawing.  They talk about her belief that personality and temperament influence a painter’s work, and that a painter cannot paint for reviews  -- “you just do it because you just want to do it”.

• Rita Letendre was born Nov. 1, 1928 in Drummondville, Que.  She is an Officer of the Order of Canada, and in 2010 received the Governor General's Award in Visual and Media Arts.
