Marquee arts and cultural calendar - October 29, 2015

buttkapinski.jpgHere's your Thursday Marquee.

Halloween is coming up ... and there are lots of dark and creepy things to do on the arts scene.

Butt Kapinski is one of them.

It's a film noir murder mystery at the Old Fire Hall. (photo: www.ButtKapinski.com)

Join private eye Butt Kapinski in a seedy world of sex, sin and shadows.

Deanna Fleysher is the woman leading the interactive experience. Expect lots of laughs as you take part in the world of dark dreams.

It's an adults-only show, so keep that in mind.

That's Butt Kapinski at the Old Fire Hall... tonight and Saturday at 7:30pm.

The Guild presents its Haunted House this week.

It's a full-out fear experience... that's rated PG-13!

Children will not be allowed to enter.

That's tonight and tomorrow at 8pm... and Saturday at 11pm... at the Guild Hall in Porter Creek.

Kona's Coalition is hosting its annual Halloween dance.

MASQ 2 features music by M-C Flipside with D-J-K-J and Dash.

That's Saturday night at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre.

It's fundraiser for Yukon animals in need!

There are lots of prizes for best costumes.

The dance starts at 8pm.

You can also dress up in your best Halloween costume... and head to the Wheelhouse.

D-J Miguel y Lucia from Salsa Yukon will have you dancing the night away to their Latin sounds.

That's Saturday at 9pm at the Wheelhouse Restaurant on the waterfront.

For the younger set...

The Music, Art and Drama 9/10 class presents its annual haunted house.

This year's MADnificent Castle will feature an opening spectacle set during a medieval wedding.

It features acrobats, jesters, ballerinas and more.

Come wander through the rooms of this MADnificent castle and face the unknown, if you dare. There are videos in the gym for the faint of heart.

Evening shows are at the Wood Street Centre tonight and tomorrow night.

Show times are 6:30 and 8pm.

Just a reminder, it may be too intense for children under grade 4.

Heart of Riverdale is hosting a Haunted House and Halloween Dance.

There's the "low scare" house from 4 to 5pm.... that's the one for me.

And the "high scare" haunted house is from 5 to 6pm.

And there's Monster Mash dance from 4 to 7pm.

That's Saturday ...upstairs at the Heart of Riverdale on Lewes Boulevard.

The City of Whitehorse is hosting a Halloween Spooktacular.

That's Saturday from 3 to 6pm at the Canada Games Centre.

Now in Dawson City...

Get in the mood for haunting with "The Dark Readings."

That's the second public poetry reading by students at the Yukon School of Visual Arts.

Enjoy original poetry, drone music, and tea.

It's happening tonight at 7:30pm ... on second floor of SOVA, at the corner of Queen and Third in Dawson.

Also Saturday night... Halloween ... there's a Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre in Dawson.

It's set at the funeral and reading of the will of the late Reginald Duvall.

He was tragically and mysteriously taken before his time in the Klondike gold fields.

Guests are encouraged to dress "in gold rush era mourning."

That's Saturday in the KIAC Ballroom.

In Mayo, the RCMP are hosting a Halloween party for the children.

That's from 3 to 5pm at the Community Hall.

There will also be a Masquerade Dance at 9pm ... featuring live music by Retrospect.

Celebrate Halloween at the Lorne Mountain Community Centre Saturday night.

That starts at 6pm ... with some scary games.

Puppet friends, Alvaro and Bluey Armstrong, will make a spook-takular visit at 7pm ... along with Nicole Edwards and Rob Pelletier.

You can dress up tomorrow night too...

Yukon Rendezvous is holding a Back to the Future 2 Dance Party.

That's tomorrow night at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre.

Major Funk and the Employment will keep everyone on the dance floor.

That's tomorrow at 8pm.

And finally, Ashu Duo is coming to the Yukon tomorrow night.

He was set to come earlier this year but the show had to be postponed.

He'll be on stage Friday night at the Yukon Arts Centre.

Ashu Duo has shown that the concert saxophone can attract younger and new listeners into the concert hall.

He'll be joined on stage by award-winning pianist Alexandre Moutouzkine.

If you still have tickets that you purchased from last season for Ashu Duo, you can use them for this concert.

If you can't find them, just call the box office at the Yukon Arts Centre.

And there are seats available too.
