February 14 - 25, 2018 Enjoy theatre, dance and more!

January 19, 2018

CBC Vancouver is proud to support Indigenous artists and sponsor the 2018 Talking Stick Festival, taking place February 14 - 25, 2018 at various venues in Metro Vancouver.

Gathering over 18,000 Indigenous and non- Indigenous attendees alike, the Festival features 11 exciting days of traditional and contemporary visual arts, film, theatre, dance, and music. Events include Indigenous Industry Series, the community Métis Kitchen Party, Celebration of Powwow Culture & Aboriginal Artisan Fair, workshops, masterclasses    and Talking Circles.

Drawing meaning from the salmon's journey to their spawning grounds, 2018's Talking Stick Festival is named Scháyilhen (S-ch-eye-yay-lh-un), which translates to "Salmon Going Up River";  speaking to the journey the community is taking towards embracing and celebrating Indigenous art forms and practices.

Program highlights include:

A new Reel Indigenuity! Mentorship Program pairing Indigenous youth with established filmmakers to create short films over a 2-3 day period produced entirely using an iPhone and Snapchat. Works premiere at the Reel Reservations Gala. Other Galas include our Wax hoks en Shqalawin (Open Your Hearts) Gala, All Our Relations Wrap Party and the wildly popular Ab-Original Cabaret.
