In order for Canada to stay on the leading edge of this industry, Evan Fraser, director of the Arrell Food Institute, believes we need to continue to adapt our technologies and our consumption.

Take protein.

"My prediction is that we in the future will be eating less, but better-quality meat."

Fraser also believes we will be eating more farmed salmon, insect protein, algae-based protein, fungus-based protein and vegetable-based protein such as soy.

In this segment of Canada Is ... Fraser discusses how Canadian farmers are becoming more sustainable in their agricultural practices.

Canada is ... is an online series produced in collaboration with Thought Café showcasing the many facets of Canadian identity. Leading figures in each field explore how their area relates to Canadian culture and capture a part of what it means to be Canadian.
