Ice cider at award-winning Domaine Pinnacle
The CBC's Jacquie Czernin, host of Breakaway in Quebec City, brings us the story of an entrepreneur who is helping to put the Townships on the wines and spirits maps of the world.
Charles Crawford, along with his wife and partner, Susan Reid, have won more than a hundred gold medals internationally for their pioneering ice ciders, maple liqueurs, and most recently, their much-in-demand Ungava gin.
Jacquie Czernin recently visited Domaine Pinnacle
near Frelighsburg, by the Quebec-Vermont border
The owners told Jacquie how a love of the region has lead them to the pinnacle of success.

Domaine du Ridge: stomping grapes like Lucy
It was one of the funniest "I Love Lucy" episodes ever, Lucy stomping grapes, her feet getting more and more purple....
The CBC's Jacquie Czernin got to try old-fashioned grape stomp in the Townships herself this week. She was crushing grapes with her bare feet as part of a seasonal wine-making event at the vineyard of former Member of Parliament Denis Paradis. It's called Domaine du Ridge, and it's 44 acres of vines near the village of St-Armand (near Frelighsburg).
Jacquie Czernin brings the story to Sonali Karnick from our Quebec City studio, where she hosts Breakaway on CBC Radio.
