Sylvie Desgroseilliers, woman of soul

SylvieDesgroseilliers 023-1.jpgImagine an evening filled with the soulful sounds of Josephine Baker...Mahalia Jackson... Billie Holiday... Etta James.... Gloria Gaynor and Whitney Houston.

Sylvie Desgroseilliers will pay tribute to those big voices when she performs her show Women of Soul in Quebec City later this month at Palais Montcalm.

The Quebec singer is well known to francophone audiences here. She's been singing professionally for 20 years. She went from singing at church to performing in Montreal's gay village to Montreal's Jubilation Gospel Choir. Then Sylvie Desgroseilliers released her first album at the age of 40. It sold more than 25,000 copies.

Now she's bringing her Women of Soul show to Quebec City for the first time - to where she spent part of her childhood. She joins Shari Okeke in studio.
