Famille Futée: the smart family cookbook

Famille futee cookbook.jpgWe're told all the time to eat fresh vegetables and a variety of foods in a healthy, balanced diet. But that could mean a more expensive shopping cart.

A new Quebec book takes on that challenge of healthy and cheap meals. It's called Famille futée - the smart family. Nutritionist and TV host Genevieve O'Gleman joined forces with co-host Alexandra Diaz to put together 75 recipes at 5-dollars a plate.

They had some help too. Quebec celebrities from singer Florence K to award-winning author Kim Thuy - all parents - put in their two cents as well, on how to prepare food for the kids.

We couldn't fit all of them into the studio this morning, but we do have Genevieve O'Gleman and Alexandra Diaz here.

In the Kitchen with Stefano Faita, the cookbook

In the Kitchen.jpgIt's no surprise that dishes like Classic Margherita Pizza, layered cheese and vegetable pie and Triple Chocolate Brownie Explosion are fan-favourites. That's why Stefano Faita has made those recipes and 247 more part of his latest cookbook.

He's the host of the CBC TV show In the Kitchen with Stefano Faita. That's also the title of his new cookbook. Oh, and he's also become a restaurateur since we last spoke with him.

So this morning, he'll tell us about his cookbook, his new restaurant, Impasto, and of course, a few last-minute sides for Thanksgiving. Stefano Faita is back in the All in the Weekend virtual kitchen.

Picking pumpkins at Quinn Farm

Pumpkins.jpgThanksgiving weekend is the busiest time of the year for the Quinn Farm on Ile Perrot. People come for what's left of the apple harvest - the Halloween pumpkins - and the squash. And the kids come for the wagon rides and farm animals - not to mention the baked goods.

Phil Quinn is the co-owner and manager of the family farm. He's been up all night making apple and pumpkin muffins for the crowd. But he's up and ready to tell Sonali Karnick all about his pumpkin and squash patches.
