Easter

Eli Glasner's Top 5 films for Easter, Passover

Babies poster2.jpgKids, there used to be only five or six channels you could watch on TV. So on Easter weekend, if you weren't watching hockey, you watched a steady stream of Biblical movies.

You can still see The Ten Commandments with Charlton Heston as Moses on network TV.
Or you can rent or stream Easter Parade with Fred Astaire and Judy Garland.

But now, there are more choices, and we've asked CBC movie reviewer Eli Glasner to come up with a Top 5 list for this holiday weekend.

It takes us from The Last Temptation of Christ and The Prince of Egypt to Babies.

Greek treats for Easter

koulourakia.JPGEaster is an important religious holiday celebrated by many different communities. For Greek Canadians, many of those Easter traditions revolve around food. There's the braided bread called tsoureki that's decorated with scarlet-dyed eggs and then those sweet cookies called koulourakia.

We're going to learn more about them this morning. You may even have time to whip up a batch yourself this morning to dip into your tea or coffee.

Host Sonali Karnick dropped by Olga Thanassoulis' kitchen in Montreal earlier this week. Olga's had a lifetime of cooking her family's recipes going back to her childhood in Greece. As you'll hear, her grandchildren were hanging around, waiting to have a taste of the koulourakia as they were being made...
