"Basket Weaving has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mother has been a big influence in my life as to the different techniques and styles of baskets. It is my intention to both preserve the art and form of the traditional techniques of Mi'kmaq basketry, yet continue to create new forms which will allow me to highlight traditional heritage."

Brian Jungen - Mixed Media

Brian JungenBrian Jungen is one of Canada's best known young artists. In 2002, he won the $50,000 inaugural Sobey Art Award. In 2004, the Warhol Art Foundation granted the Vancouver Art Gallery $50,000 to organize a travelling exhibit of Jungen's work, which often involves the transformation of everyday objects.

He fashioned Northwest Coast Indian style masks out Nike sneakers, and a gigantic whale skeleton out of plastic lawn chairs.
