Two white supremacists accused of plotting to kill U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama will remain in jail following a decision by a federal magistrate in Memphis, Tenn., on Thursday.
The magistrate granted a defence request to delay a hearing for Daniel Cowart, 20, and Paul Schlesselman, 18, while ordering that they remain behind bars.
The defence lawyers asked for more time to prepare for a hearing on whether the case will be sent to a grand jury.
The two men, whom officials described as neo-Nazi "skinheads," are charged with possessing an illegal firearm, planning to steal weapons from a federally licensed gun dealer and making threats against a presidential candidate.
Authorities who spoke to the Associated Press on the condition of anonymity earlier in the week said the two, who planned to behead blacks across the country while wearing white top hats and tuxedos, were likely too disorganized and lacked the means to carry out the plot.
