NATO forces say military divers have found the body of one of two U.S. soldiers who disappeared last week in western Afghanistan.
The two paratroopers disappeared in the province of Badghis, a remote area that borders Turkmenistan, on Nov. 4 while trying to recover airdropped supplies that had fallen into a river.
The search for the second soldier continues, NATO said Wednesday.
Intense fighting broke out with militants in the area during the first days of the search. Eight Afghans were killed, while 17 Afghan troops and five U.S. soldiers were wounded.
NATO and Afghan authorities are investigating whether some of the casualties were caused by a botched NATO air strike.
