The European Union says it still plans to admit Cyprus in spite of failed peace talks to reunite the island.
The UN-brokered discussions between Turkish and Greek Cypriots collapsed early Tuesday, after the Turkish side rejected a deal.
Jean-Christophe Filori, a spokesperson for the European Commission, says the internationally recognized Greek Cypriot government will sign the membership treaty on behalf of the whole island.
Filori is also warning Turkey that its involvement in the Cyprus situation is endangering its own bid to join the EU.
Turkey is the only country that recognizes the Turkish Cypriot administration in northern Cyprus.
