This week on The Next Chapter, Shelagh Rogers talks to mystery writer Gail Bowen about murder, mothering and mid-life passion.
Bowen is one of Canada’s most popular crime writers. She is best known for her series of mysteries featuring Joanne Kilbourn, an amateur detective in Regina who juggles family commitments, career and solving grisly murders. A grandmother in her mid-fifties, Kilbourn is also a newlywed with a husband who finds her very desirable. In this latest novel, The Brutal Heart (McClelland & Stewart), a murder disrupts a federal election campaign and the intrepid sleuth finds herself in the thick of things in the political arena.
There’s more in the podcast of the show: Shelagh visits Little Portugal in Toronto with author Anthony Da Sa to talk about his first novel, Barnacle Love.
First aired Saturday, March 14, 2009, on The Next Chapter. [runs 16:16]
