Prior to September 11, 2001, Abigail Carter felt like she had it all — a loving husband, young children and a fulfilling career. Then came September 11, 2001, and her husband’s death during the attack on the World Trade Centre.
Carter began writing after this loss, at the age of 38. In her memoir, The Alchemy of Loss: A Young Widow’s Transformation (McClelland & Stewart), she writes about her six-year journey through grief and how she eventually put the pieces of her life back together.
Raised in Toronto, Carter lived with her husband in London, Brussels and Boston. She has settled now with their two children in Seattle, Washington.
Also on the show, designer, television host and entrepreneur Debby Travis talks to Shelagh Rogers about her book Not Guilty: My Guide to Working Hard, Raising Kids and Laughing through the Chaos. And Randy Boyagoda drops by to talk about Kenneth J. Harvey’s latest novel, Blackstrap Hawco (selected as the Best Book Out of Canada for 2008 by amazon.com (U.S.).
