Listen here:

Writing in the DarkTwo of David Grossman’s novels, The Book of Intimate Grammar (Picador) and See Under: Love (Picador) were named among the 10 most important books in Israeli history. Now, the acclaimed author and peace activist has two new books that explore his homeland’s psyche.

One is a collection of essays, Writing in the Dark (Douglas & McIntyre), and the other is a new novel. The latter is not yet available in English but it’s been preoccupying him for the last five years. During that time, Grossman’s younger son, Uri, was killed in the 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict.

Eleanor Wachtel spoke to David Grossman on stage at the Vancouver Jewish Book Festival. The interview took place on November 4, the 13th anniversary of the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.

First aired November 23, 2008 on Writers & Company. [runs 52:46]

Writers & Company airs on Thursdays at 11:00 p.m. (11:30 in Newfoundland) and on Sunday afternoons (times vary across the country). You can also listen to the show as a podcast.
