An extended meditation: Thomas Wharton reflects on the process of writing Icefields

This week Canada Reads features a blog posting by Thomas Wharton who discusses the writing process and his book Icefields. Here’s an excerpt:

"Once at a reading a woman came up to me and said that her partner had died from a fall into a crevasse. She said the novel had helped her during this difficult time. That was the most startling thing anyone has ever said to me about my writing, and it made me realize how meaningful stories can be for readers. Having the novel back in the spotlight means it will find new readers and maybe touch them in ways I can’t predict, and for that I’m very grateful."

Visit Canada Reads to read it all. While you’re there, enter the weekly contest for a chance to win all five of this year’s books and a great book bag.
