Grandmother left alone but supports Journey
Six men left Whapmagoostui on January 16th, heading through the bush on a 1500-km trek called the Journey of Nishiyuu. Through the wind and temperatures reaching -40, they are headed to Ottawa in support of the Idle no More movement and also to show that the youth of Eeyou Istchee still have a strong culture. Elder Anne Kawapit Snr has two grandsons and two sons on this Journey. She spoke with Melissa Natachequan shortly after the departure.
