Elder Saunders Weistche on how to prepare bear
The bear is one of the most respected animals in Cree tradition. In the past, hunters took care to make sure none of the meat was wasted. These days, many of the traditions of preparing the meat and fat are still done. Melissa Natachequan had the chance to watch Saunders Weistche from Waskaganish, working on a hunk of bear fat.
