High food prices hit families hard
Food prices have been the subject of much debate recently, as Ottawa's Nutrition North food subsidy program will take effect April 1st. Nutrition North replaces Food Mail as a way to subsidize nutritious foods in the Inuit communities. The the only Cree community that will be affected is Whapmagoostui. Ruby Dick knows how hard it is to feed a family when groceries cost a fortune. She has five children and lives in Whapmagoostui.
The Co-op Manager in Kuujjuuarapik/Whapmagoostui is Elijah Petagumskum. He explains what he understands the Nutrition North program to be, and how prices have been affected for the Crees of Whapmagoostui.
