Kanina Holmes

Assistant Professor of Journalism, Carleton University

Before returning to Carleton to teach in 2004, Kanina’s journalism career included working at CBC radio as a reporter and producer in Ottawa, Whitehorse and at National Radio News in Toronto. She was a national reporter with Global TV in Winnipeg, covering Prairie floods, farm life and the plight of urban aboriginals. She moved to the world of print working as a correspondent with Reuters. The spell of the Yukon called her back for another stint in Whitehorse where she was the television bureau producer for CBC North. Kanina has also reported from Tanzania, Kenya and Burundi, producing stories about children working in the high-risk gemstone business as well as child soldiers. Part of this work included spending a year with Gemini News, a wire service based in London, England. Kanina has also lived and worked in Stockholm, Sweden, Norwich, England and Butare, Rwanda.
