CBC Windsor

Brandon or Bust!

Windsor to Brandon = 13 1/2 hours - give me a break!

Two cancelled flights out of Windsor because of a broken plane and bad weather, too many one-way streets in Winnipeg and a long, flat drive to Brandon.
Oh and I forgot to mention the airline lost my luggage.

Needless to say I was happy to finally arrive at my destination, the home of the 2010 Memorial Cup, Brandon, Manitoba.

I've never been to this part of Canada. First impression: beautiful and the weather is fantastic, sorry Windsor!

Spits take on hosts

As for the hockey, it starts this morning. The host Brandon Wheat Kings and the Spitfires both practice, I still have to find the arena and get accredited and all that red tape stuff.

I am looking forward to talking with players and coaches from both teams. The Wheat Kings host the Spits in game one of the round robin tournament tonight at 8pm Eastern Time.

Talked to Spits coach Bob Boughner about a week ago and off camera he told me that he expects the Wheat Kings to be the toughest competition.

Brandon has two first round NHL picks in Braydon Schenn and Scott Glennie and factor in home grown Captain Matt Calvert and what you wind up with is as much fire power as the Spitfires.

The key will be in goal; the Wheat Kings Jacob De Seres has been up and down in the playoffs. The Spitfires Phillip Grubauer has been mostly up. Advantage Spitfires!

Let the games begin.
