The Hospital Fixer Show

In April 2009, Nancy Mojica-Fisher went to the hospital in Clarenville, Newfoundland to receive the drug Remicade, a treatment for psoriasis.  By mistake, she received a cancer chemotherapy drug, and could have died.

Laboratory errors...dysfunctional relationships between members of the medical staff...patients dying because of mistakes in cancer testing. 

When Vickie Kaminski was hired back in 2009 as CEO of Eastern Health, Newfoundland and Labrador's largest and most troubled health region, she had a big mess to clean up.  Her first day on the job, the hospital executive received the final report of the Commission of Inquiry report by Justice Margaret Cameron that documented errors in breast cancer testing at Eastern Health that resulted in 383 patients not getting the cancer treatment they should have and 108 patients who died while receiving inadequate treatment.  Soon after, she had to deal with a second crisis involving more lab errors that resulted in patients receiving the wrong dose of anti-rejection drugs.

Can Vickie Kaminski fix what ails Eastern Health?  Dr. Brian Goldman was granted unprecedented access to follow Kaminski as she tries to rebuild morale among health care workers and trust among Newfoundlanders.  You'll also hear Nancy Mojica-Fisher talk about her ordeal and what happened when she confronted the new CEO.
