On this Saturday's edition of White Coat, Black Art we go where they care for the patients nobody wants.
First stop is Klinic, a community health centre near several crackhouses in downtown Winnipeg where we meet Dr. Mike Dillon and Joan Saxton, two of the extraordinary staff who look after patients there.
And we visit the New Canadian Program in Scarborough, Ontario, a clinic frequented by illegals immigrants, as well as refugees and landed immigrants who haven't yet qualified for medicare in Ontario.
Ontario is one of 4 provinces that require even LANDED IMMIGRANTS to live in the province for 3 months before they qualify for health care. That's why on the show you'll hear a couple that is living hand-to-mouth being told they must pay a minimum of $860 UP FRONT and as a deposit on the entire cost of having the baby in the local hospital. If they can't come up with the money, the hospital won't admit them.
