Liner Notes: May 2013 Archives

WAM May 25-26 Liner Notes - Gavin Simms and The Garrison Hill Band

Time for Liner Notes, and this morning on the WAM we feature Gavin Simms and The Garrison Hill Band.

The self-titled album is made up of folk songs written by Gavin Simms and music by a group of musicians known as The Garrison Hill Band. The music was recorded live off the floor, offering the same simple, acoustic sound that the band became accustomed to, rehearsing in a spare bedroom on Garrison Hill in downtown St. John's.

I began by asking Gavin if he has done music ever since he's been living in Hermitage:

WAM May 11-12 Liner Notes - Chris Picco

Time for Liner Notes, and this morning on the Weekend AM we feature Chris Picco with his new CD "The Beach".

Like many a Newfoundlander before him, Chris Picco set out for the bright lights of Toronto at a young age. That's where he got started as a singer and songwriter, releasing his first album in 2004. But a few years later, Chris was back in his hometown of St. John's, and it's proved to be a productive return. After releasing another solo album in 2007, he formed a band called The Long Distance Runners. Meanwhile, Chris Picco continues his solo work, and will be releasing his new CD on May 30th.

I Spoke to Chris and asked him why he called his new CD "The Beach":
