WAM August 18-19 Jean-Claude Roy
Jean-Claude Roy’s work has become part of that vast canvas on which this province is depicted. Bold splashes of colour, jusxtaposed with ominous foreboding skies and often dark moons. Those jubilant houses dancing with abandon in ecstatic meadows … Rejoicing wharves perched over celebrating sea as if they just couldn’t imagine being anywhere else on earth. That is the Newfoundland of Jean-Claude Roy And there are the French scenes, and the poppy fields, oh the vermillion poppies. Tempting us into the countryside of Roy’s life in his native France. Jean Claude Roy just opened an exhibition of new works at the Emma Butler Gallery in St. John’s. So I popped by for a peek and a chat with the artist himself.
