On it’s website Access Copyright defines itself as as a not-for-profit organization in 1988 by a group of authors and publishers with a common and simple objective:To protect the value of their intellectual property by ensuring fair compensation when their works are copied. Access Copyright lets users use copyrighted works - places such as universities - while giving writers and creators fair compensation. A couple of weeks ago on Weekend AM Access Copyright came under fire from the association that represents the province’s librarians. Crystal Rose expressed concern about the fact that Memorial University was considering signing on to a new copyright agreement. One she feared would be costly and among other things, infringe on privacy and academic freedom. Maureen Cavan is the Executive Director of the copyright licensing agency, Access Copyright.
