Northern Towns

As part of the Northern Towns feature, we profile cities and towns from the Northwest that aren't actually in the Northwest. It's a chance for us to get to know the people who live in our alternate universe.

The feature airs every Friday afternoon on Voyage North. If you missed one of the interviews or really enjoyed one and wanted to hear it again, we're going to post them below. Enjoy!

12 Days of Northwestern Ontario Christmas!!!

We here at Voyage North got tired of listening to OTHER people's Christmas Carols, so we decided to invent one of our own (with the help of our wonderfully creative listeners).

The final product is the very festive and hilarious 12 Days of Northwestern Ontario Christmas. We received hundreds of entries throughout the contest: some brilliant, some weird, some inappropriate, but much appreciated nonetheless.

Here is the final list:
Day 1: A trip on a Bearskin plane
Day 2: Two highway closures
Day 3: Three toasted persians
Day 4: Four white-tail deer
Day 5: Five curling rinks
Day 6: Six huts on Lac
Day 7: Seven Hoito pancakes
Day 8: Eight Stanley burgers
Day 9: Nine Border Cats
Day 10: Ten Kenora dinner jackets
Day 11: Eleven pickerel fillets
Day 12: Twelve Egli's slippers

Thank you very much to everyone who called in. We now have our very own Northwestern Ontario carol that can be sung with the family around the Christmas tree. For your listening pleasure, here's the final version of the 12 Days of Northwestern Ontario Christmas:
