Cooler, Showery Weekend...Improving Fire Weather...July 18th

  • Our strong ridge of high pressure that brought almost 2 weeks of dry and hot conditions to the province is sliding south and east today
  • A series of Pacific low pressure systems will follow the new westerly flow int the province for a mixed bag weekend along the south coast
  • Increasing cloud cover today with light rain to begin for Vancouver overnight tonight
  • Rain will continue tomorrow morning for the south coast but we could see some sunny breaks by the end of the day
  • A mix of sun & cloud for Sunday at this point
  • Temps all weekend will be down 20-21 for afternoon highs

BC Fire Weather
  • Showers have already started for the Prince George and Caribou region today - good news fro fire danger (~10mm), with low threat for lightning strikes
  • Meanwhile the showers should begin for the Okanagan tomorrow..gusty winds and dry conditions for one more critical day today
  • Air quality advisories still in place from the smoke across the BC interior and central Alberta - great satellite shot from NASA Earth uploaded from July 16th:
