Steadier Rain Tonight, Isolated showers to Continue All Week...March 25th

  • Scattered showers will pick up to steady rain this afternoon as a system slides through the south coast
  • An isolated thunderstorm is also possible today with gusty winds as the center of the low stays just off the coast
  • Unsettled weather is the story all week long as an upper level area of low pressure system continues to direct rounds of showers onshore..but a few sunny breaks later in the week also possible
  • Looks like a bigger storm will arrive for Friday

WA Slide Update
  • Flood warnings remain in effect for areas upstream of the slide on the Stillaguamish River, with flash flood warnings for areas downstream
  • From The National Weather Service Last Update: Flooding of homes & roads continues upstream of dam and will do so until the new river channel is big enough to drain the pile-up of water
  • New rainfall amounts today will not really make a big impact to river levels but will make for messy conditions for crews today
  • Continued rain though is a concern for the unstable soil in the areas around the mudslides

Major Winter Storm Hitting Atlantic Canada Tonight
  • A very serious story for the east coast
  • In preparation of what could be the strongest winter storm of the year..and perhaps in years... for the east coast: blizzard, wind & storm warnings are in place for most of the Maritimes right now
  • An intense and dangerous Nor'easter will start spreading heavy snow tonight, along with hurricane force winds and pounding surf/storm surge.
  • Between 25-40 cm of snow is expected in the hardest hit areas while southwestern Nova Scotia may see upwards of 40 to 50 cm of snow before the system pulls away by Thursday
  • The Nor'easter is expected to move into Newfoundland midday Wednesday, continuing to impact the province through Friday morning.
  • Environment Canada is warning of Widespread power outages...and while the sources are not tropical- the comparisons to a 'winter hurricane' are accurate as far as impacts go

Toronto Snow Squalls
  • The GTA is getting hit with brief bursts of heavy snow this afternoon. Toronto and surrounding areas are under a snow squall watch right now with ~5 cm locally possible along with reduced visibility
  • Should ease by this evening

Indian Ocean Weather
  • Update on conditions: looks like they are improving slightly today, but there are more rounds of rough weather in the forecast this week
  • Rough waves and intense winds have likely continued to add to dispersing the debris in question
  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jup6nAjp2mI - pretty impressive youtube video out there from previous ships in that section of the ocean in rough water to give people an idea of what it looks like in a storm
