Grey & Breezy Today.. Clearing & Cooling Ahead... Dec 17th

  • Some light rain this morning fell across the south coast as a weak cold front slid through the region. Winds are a little breezy behind the front, especially by the water today
  • Some clearing is happening towards Richmond and Delta but a mainly grey day for the rest of the south coast
  • The winds will really begin to ramp up tomorrow from the northwest, bringing in a clearer & cooler airmass for Wednesday afternoon and much of Thursday
  • Temperature tomorrow should still sneak up to a 5 or 6 but by Thursday they will struggle to get to a 1 or 2
  • However, there is not much moisture left by the time snow levels drop, so our best chance of any winter precip will probably be confined to Wednesday night as wet snow or ice pellets as as little wave sneaks through the dry airmass
  • By Thursday night, yet another frontal system moves in bringing back the mild temps and rain for Friday. For those hoping for some snow during the transition time, doesn't look great for snow falling Thursday night or Friday morning with such a dry airmass in place, but not out of the question
  • At this point looks like a showery but seasonal weekend ahead

More Snow for Eastern Canada Today
  • After a generally 2-5 cm to the lower Great Lakes last night, with a second round moving in for this evening..similar amounts. Temps are not as extreme but still frigid with minus 30 wind chills still on tap for Ottawa & Montreal tonight
  • That system is now picking up strength as it hits the Atlantic waters - as much as 10-20 cm with strong winds, followed by a wintery mix pf precip starting overnight tonight for the Maritimes
  • Newfoundland is then next in line for tomorrow afternoon/evening for another round of significant snow and gusty winds
  • A note that southern Alberta is seeing Chinook winds today for a 5-6 degree afternoon high in Calgary! (Before dropping in dramatic fashion back to -18 tomorrow)
