Intense Storms Last Night..Give Way to Fabulous Weekend...Aug 30th

  • A serious line of storms tracked across the south coast last night between 11pm and 12am. One hour rainfall rates are impressive and they came with 1000 lightning strikes and at least 55 km/h wind gusts:

West Vancouver                          16mm
Point Atkinson                          18mm
Kitsilano                               14mm
Burns bog                               13mm

  • The Pacific frontal system began spreading round of heavy rain Wednesday night and unofficial 24 hour rainfall totals are below:

Vancouver international airport         31mm
Downtown Vancouver                      46mm
West Vancouver                          51mm
Kitsilano                               28mm
Squamish Airport                        79mm
Downtown Squamish                       97mm
Powell River                            20mm

  • Showers are lingering this morning but a weak ridge is already trying to build in behind the system bringing sunshine this afternoon and a sunny and warm weekend ahead.
  • Morning fog may be something to watch for over the next few days and at this point there is a chance that the holiday Monday could come with showers.
