Happy Holidays! A Sunny Weekend My Gift To You! ... Dec 28th

Happy holidays and a Merry Christmas to all! I had a lovely week and a bit off with the YYZ Wagstaffes but am back home and feeling good. And just in time for a nice stretch of sun.

Our weak frontal system is sliding onshore bringing rounds of light drizzle to the coast today and tonight. But clouds are relatively high so viability good.

High pressure is building though across BC and will prevail through the weekend; this means drier, and sunnier weather.

Vancouver Christmas Market

- Right now it looks like there is still a risk for Saturday morning drizzle but by the afternoon we should be into the sun & cloud
- More sun for Sunday..and at this point right through to at least the end of next week. But there is not a huge amount of confidence in the models so things may change in the long range
- Temperatures will also cool down especially overnight starting Sunday. Overnight lows will be below zero for metro Vancouver right through next week with afternoon highs only a couple above zero. So by the time we do see the next system (looks like Thu at this point) it will most likely mean wet snow for most

Eastern Canada Snowstorm Now Hitting NFLD
- The low pressure system is now over Cape Breton and will track across Newfoundland tonight before moving out to sea on Saturday.
- Rain over Southeastern Newfoundland will end this evening as the low approaches. Over northeastern and central areas heavy snow blowing snow and strong easterly winds will taper off overnight as the low passes. Further snowfall amounts of 15 to 20 centimetres are possible. Gander is getting hit pretty hard right now- about 13 cm on the ground right now with strong winds.
- Snowfall totals across the Maritimes were up to 38 cm in Gagetown and winds gusted up to 90 km/h

The Next East Coast Storm Already Brewing
- Hot on the heels of the last storm is a new low pressure system developing in the Gulf of Mexico
- By Saturday the storm will spread snow and slippery conditions to the US east coast areas (NY, NJ) hit hard just the past couple of days..snowfall totals will not be as high but travel will definitely be disrupted
- The northern end of the system will also bring light snowfall to southern Ontario and another ~5 cm to Montreal
- By Saturday evening into Sunday the storm will pass just south of Nova Scotia spreading 15-30 cm of snow. High winds will also be a problem.
- A winter storm watch is already in place in advance of this system for the entire province of NS

A New Smart Closet Will Help You Pick Out An Outfit
- Researchers are developing a 'smart closet' that has the artificial intelligence to suggest occasion-based and colour-appropriate outfits.
- The Magic Closet is a computer programme, under development at the National University of Singapore and the Chinese Academy of Science. The motion-controlled programme suggests suitable outfits for different occasions, Tech-News Daily reported.
- Although the Magic Closet is a lab project, it's almost ready for store shelves, Si Liu and Shuicheng Yan, computer scientists at the National University of Singapore , wrote to the website.
