Live at 1:30 p.m. NT, 1 AT, noon ET, 11 CT, 10 MT and 9 a.m. PT., CBC News Chief Correspondent Peter Mansbridge and Senior Correspondent Alison Smith and Radio-Canada News anchors Bernard Derome and Daniel Lessard host a 90-minute news special including bilingual greetings from Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, Prime Minister Jean Chretien and Heritage Minister Sheila Copps.
Following the arrival of dignitaries, a stellar cast will entertain both the crowd on the Hill and the TV audience. Amanda Marshall and Jean-Pierre Ferland headline the show and will be joined by Alberta's Adam Gregory, the Borealis String Quartet from British Columbia, Leela Gilday from North West Territories, Cape Breton's young sensations The Cottars, Quebec's Mix Mania and Grammy Award-winning baritone Gino Quilico. The noon show will also include the traditional annual fly past by The Snowbirds. The noon special, which will also be seen on CBC Newsworld and RDI, is produced by Susan Hall and directed by Wayne Moss.
