Trudeau II: Maverick in the Making

Trudeau II: Maverick in the Making repeat airing part one - Thursday, July 13, 2006 at 8:00 p.m. and part two - Thursday, July 20, 2006, 8:00 p.m.

TRUDEAU II: MAVERICK IN THE MAKING is a four-hour, two-part CBC Big Ticket mini-series that takes a compelling look at the formative years of the man who became our 15th Prime Minister. The first-part airs on CBC Television on Thursday, July 13, 2006, 8:00 p.m. with the conclusion airing on Thursday, July 20, 2006, 8:00 p.m.

Starring Tobie Pelletier as the young Trudeau and Stéphane Demers, as the adult Trudeau, the mini-series paints an intimate portrait of Trudeau as a lover, a rabble-rousing maverick and a passionate defender of individual freedoms. The drama closely examines his battle against the narrowness and parochialism of life in Quebec in the 40’s and 50’s.

TRUDEAU II: MAVERICK IN THE MAKING brings to life the turbulent Quebec society of Trudeau’s youth. The drama covers the pivotal moments of his life before becoming Prime Minister: the death of his father, his battles with Quebec Premier Maurice Duplessis, the Roman Catholic Church, René Lévesque, his friendship with the other “wise men” Gérard Pelletier (Gary Levert) and Jean Marchand (Patrick Labbé) and the launching of the boat-rocking political magazine Cité Libre. But even as he made his mark politically, romantically he struggled. Choosing reason over passion, he left more than a few broken hearts in his wake.

“If the first mini-series (the multi-Gemini Award winning Trudeau) was a portrait of Trudeau the Canadian, TRUDEAU II: MAVERICK IN THE MAKING is a portrait of Trudeau the Québecois,” explains co-writer Wayne Grigsby.

TRUDEAU II: MAVERICK IN THE MAKING is written by Wayne Grigsby and Guy Fournier, directed by Tim Southam and is produced by Nova Scotia’s Big Motion Pictures for CBC Television. Executive Producers are Grigsby and David MacLeod.
