On Monday, August 6th, CBC Radio marked the 50th anniversary of Jamaican independence with a special program hosted by Marcia Young, who is of Jamaican origin herself.

Her guests included:

- Ajjie Shaw, who moved from warmth of the Carribean island nation to the chillier climate of Yellowknife, NWT

- Toronto filmmakers Sudz Sutherland and Jennifer Holness. They've made a feature film called Home Again about young Jamaican-born immigrants who are deported back to their birthplace after getting into trouble with the law.

- The CBC's Mary Wiens who visited the Revival Time Tabernacle in Toronto, a church popular with many Jamaican-Canadians.

As well, you'll hear a short story about the Jamaican class system, and an award-winning poem about the Island's unique patois.
