"I don't think I'll be giving up my day job," Susan quips before turning serious."But my mom encouraged me to paint as a child. Every week she took me to art lessons for years. I lost my mom last year at this time to Alzheimer's. Painting has been one of the many life-long gifts she has given me. To this day, I try to make time for it, every single day, and it helps me to feel closer to, and honour, her memory."

The image is of a country landscape north of Toronto on an early spring morning courtesy of Chris Straw. Straw was born in Manitoba, Canada in 1958. He has lived throughout Canada, including the North West Territories, Prince Edward Island and British Columbia. He now lives in Toronto. For more than 25 years he has conveyed stories through words and sound at CBC Radio, currently as a senior director. More recently he has learned to convey stories through photography, and a variety of mixed media expressions.

The picture brings you on a cultural journey to India's flower markets where in the early morning fresh flowers are sold to hundreds of people, smaller flower vendors or intense devotees who buy in bulk directly from the market. This prize was donated by CBC staff Saumya Gautam who gives you a small glimpse of her homeland and Varanasi - one of the holiest Hindu cities in India, and one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world.
