CBC Toronto is a proud media partner of the 7th annual CIMA Canada Mayor's Trophy cricket matches on June 25 at Sunnybrook Park. Come down to enjoy a fun family day in the sun, cheer on the CBC Toronto team lead by Steve D'Souza from CBC News Toronto and meet your favourite local CBC radio and television personalities! Join us for a cricket demo, learn the game and win prizes courtesy of CBC's Live Right Now initiative.
Presented by The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and the Access & Diversity Unit of Toronto Parks, Forestry & Recreation, the event uses cricket as a vehicle to bring Toronto's diverse communities together and helps raise funds for youth cricket initiatives. Special guests for the event include Mayor Rob Ford, Minister Jim Flaherty, MPP Christine Elliott and Councillor Doug Ford.
The inaugural school cricket tournament will also be held at the Summerlea Park in Etobicoke on June 11th and at the Sunnybrook Park in Toronto June 18th. Over the last three years CIMA helped provide young Toronto cricketers with scholarships to visit Lord's Cricket Grounds in the UK to learn the history and heritage of cricket.
