To Err is Medicine: Minimizing and Managing Medical Errors
CBC Radio One presents a town hall moderated by Dr. Brian Goldman, host of CBC Radio's White Coat, Black Art with special participation of the Mini-Med School at the University of Toronto's School of Continuing Studies.
Hospitals are there to help, not harm you. So why is it that up to 24,000 people die every year from errors made in Canadian hospitals and thousands more suffer non-life threatening conditions as a result of preventable medical mistakes? Numbers like these have made patient safety a hot topic in the medical world. Incidents like the widespread misdiagnosis of breast cancer patients in St. John's, Newfoundland in 2008 have put a spotlight on the gaps in the health care system through which medical errors slip.
In this interactive town hall, Dr. Brian Goldman will be joined by doctors, nurses and patients who have experienced medical errors from both sides of the scalpel, along with experts in patient safety and advocates who explore why so many errors occur and what can be done to prevent them. Panelists will also field questions from the audience.
When: Tuesday, October 12, 2010 from 7 - 9 pm (Doors open at 6:30 p.m.)
Where: Glenn Gould Studio, CBC Broadcasting Centre
Admission: FREE - Seating is first come, first seated.
The town hall will be broadcast on Saturday, October 16 at 11 a.m. (and repeated on Monday, October 18 at 11:30 a.m.) on CBC Radio One.
