All summer long we'll been looking back on some of our favourite stories from the first two seasons of This Is That as we lead up to the launch of
Season 3 this fall on CBC Radio One.
In our second episode of the summer, foreign correspondent Chris Redman updates Canadians on the current situation at Toronto's Pearson International Airport.
We speak to a representative from an
anti-smoking group from Nelson,
B.C. that is lobbying their provincial government to stop the process of
smoking salmon as they claim it is causing
second-hand smoke that is
harmful to the residents of British Columbia.
The director of Revelstoke, B.C.s museum dedicated to the
"last spike"
comes on the show to announce some history-altering news.
Scientists off the coast of Nova Scotia have discovered the
iceberg that
sank the R.M.S. one-hundred years ago; we speak to one of the
marine-geologists in charge of the find to learn what the plans are for
this historic piece of ice.
To cap off this week's episode we're playing our documentary about the
"Little Man Gent Pageant". It is a pageant for young men that takes
place every year in a different Canadian city. We documented the
sartorial exposition when it was staged at Toronto's
Drake Hotel and
none other than CBC's
Jian Ghomeshi was a celebrity judge.
Plus, just in time for the 100th anniversary of the Calgary Stampede we
play your calls in reaction to the
protest to remove the word 'stampede'
from the title of this iconic festival.
Over the next couple months as we prepare for Season 3, we'll
be
issuing little assignments to listeners on our
Facebook fan page so
make sure you "like" us over there. We are also taking suggestions for stories
you think we should cover next season on our
This Is That Tip Line. Call
in your story to: 1-877-563-2442.
There is still time to vote for us in
Canadian Comedy Awards for
Best
Radio Show. Why our current affairs program is in the running still
perplexes us but regardless, we'd love to take home hardware this fall.
