The Mysterious Lamprey - on our Northern Research Series
There aren't too many people who want to get up close and personal with a lamprey. The eel-like creatures have a face full of sharp teeth for sucking the blood out of anything they can grab onto.
But Claude Renaud wants to get his hands on as many of them as he can. He's a lamprey expert with the Museum of Nature in Ottawa, and he's here in the Northwest Territories this summer with two other researchers.
For the next three weeks, they'll be wading through rivers in the hopes of solving a mystery that's been troubling lamprey experts for more than a hundred years.
Joslyn caught up with Claude Renaud in Yellowknife as he was packing up the rental van and getting ready to hit the road for Fort Simpson.

Today on our Northern Research Series, we're headed to the deep south.
Researchers in Atlanta, Georgia have been investigating why mosquitos -- one of the North's most prolific pests -- can hold up in a rainstorm.
Joslyn spoke with lead researcher David Hu to find out what happens in Mosquito vs. Raindrop.
And you can check out his experiment for yourself, on YouTube:
