Down in the land of grapefruits, the bats are still swinging, the runners running and the crowds cheering in that laid-back spring-training kind of way.

But practice time is just about over. The professional baseball regular season is about to begin. 

In most of the country, we need to see a few more crocuses before the amateurs and little leaguers start to play. But fingers are itchy and hopes are high - for players and umpires.
