Simon Winchester's conversation with Michael Enright took place at the Winterset in Summer Literary Festival in NFLD
Every summer for the past few years, Michael has taken part in the annual Winterset in Summer Literary Festival, which takes place in tiny Eastport, Newfoundland. This year, he spoke with Simon Winchester in front of a live audience, about the prolific writer's latest book, Atlantic: Great Sea Battles, Heroic Discoveries, Titanic Storms, and a Vast Ocean of a Million Stories.
The theme at this year's festival was "Peril at Sea." To quote from the program, the idea was to commemorate "both the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic, and the record created in literature, music and drama of the many struggles by Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, repeatedly tragic and heroic, in their dealings with the waters around them."
