This week, Ontario Ombudsman André Marin announced that his office would examine the guidelines set for police on how to de-escalate situations such as the one that took Sammy Yatim's life. 18-year-old Sammy Yatim died in a Toronto streetcar after he was shot nine times by police.

Canadian documentary filmmaker Laura Sky has explored how police handle such crisis situations, and the delicate relationships that develop, in her documentary Crisis Call.

She talks with guest-host Francine Pelletier about policing, mental health care, poverty and prisons.
