Host
Catherine grew up in Vancouver (with a year
in Edinburgh, Scotland), and became fascinated with cultural history as well as the
arts here-and-now. She enjoys a wide range of arts activities: galleries and
museums, theatre, concerts and opera.
After studies in art history she turned to radio, and still
sees audio and visual art forms as complementary rather than different worlds.
Her love of music came to the fore at CBC Vancouver, during her time
as producer of the late Bob Kerr’s beloved program ‘Off the
Record’.
Catherine got her ‘on air’ break at a fledgling
classical music station in Cobourg, Ontario. She spent a number of winters driving to
town before the snowplow for her early morning shift, and
over the years recorded hundreds of interviews with actors,
musicians, writers, directors, singers, choreographers, composers
and visual artists. She also produced and hosted a weekly
opera show.
Since the late 1980s Catherine has organized opera and
fine arts tours to her favourite haunts in Central Europe and enjoys nothing
more than a week in Prague or Vienna with plenty of film—unless
it’s a week in Georgian Bay with plenty of friends!
