

CBC CONTEST RULES AND REGULATIONS
“Remix the Ring”
August 1 – 21, 2006
CBC Radio is looking for your unique remix of the Ride of the Valkyries from Richard Wagner’s epic music drama cycle, Der Ring des Nibelungen. Your contribution may become part of CBC Radio’s online and on air celebration of the Canadian Opera Company production of the Ring Cycle in September 2006.
1. ENTRY PROCEDURE
To enter the “Remix the Ring” contest (the “Contest”), participants must follow the following entry process:
Participants must complete the official entry form published on the CBC website at www.cbc.ca/remixthering. Participants (or their parents or guardians) must submit the duly completed entry form, provide the requisite information and attestation regarding the remix submitted along with name, age, full postal address, e-mail address, telephone numbers of participant, and return it with the MP3 audio file containing their remix in compliance with these rules, to remixthering@cbc.ca.
Submissions sent by any other means will not be accepted.
To be valid, all entry forms must be received by CBC at the above e-mail
address at or before 11H59PM ET on August 21, 2006 at the latest. No submissions
will be accepted after 11:59 PM August 21, 2006 (the “Contest Close
Date”) for any reason.
Photocopies and hand-drawn facsimiles of completed entry forms and other mechanical reproductions will be rejected.
Entry forms and audio files become the property of CBC and will not be
returned to participants. Copies of the audio files submitted will not be
returned either. Acknowledgements of receipt will not be sent out.
Non compliant submissions will be disqualified.
No purchase required.
2. CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY
Contest participants must meet all conditions of eligibility set forth in these rules and regulations. Contest is open to all Canadian residents only who are thirteen (13) years of age and older at the time of entering the Contest. Employees of CBC and its affiliate, as well as their immediate family (father/mother, brother/sister, son/daughter) or persons living under the same roof are not eligible to enter this Contest.
3. PROCEDURE FOR AWARDING PRIZES
All eligible submissions will be auditioned by a qualified jury consisting
in a panel of 3 CBC judges after Contest Close Date. The winning remixes
will be chosen by the jury following a blind judging process based on the
following criteria:
Between August 28 and September 1, 2006, the ten finalists will be contacted
by telephone or by email following the jury’s decision. Finalists
must claim their prize as instructed by CBC and accept an eventual selection
as Grand Prize winner by the voting public no later than forty-eight (48)
hours after the date on which they were initially contacted. [THE FINALISTS
SHALL FIRST SIGN THEIR RELEASE AND RETURN IT BY FAX WITHIN THOSE 48 HOURS.
THEN THEY WILL MAIL IN THE ORIGINAL. ON THE RELEASE THEY WILL ACCEPT THE
GRAND PRIZE IN ADVANCE, PROVIDED THEIR REMIX COLLECTS THE MOST VOTES.] If
the prize is not claimed within this period, CBC may award the prize to
another participant. The final selection of the ten finalists will be posted
online at www.cbc.ca/remixthering on September
5, 2006 as will their remixes.
Between September 5, 2006 and September 13, 2006 at 11:59 PM at the latest,
listeners may vote among the ten finalists’ remixes on www.cbc.ca/remixthering
for their favourite remix. Limit: one vote per listener per day. The finalist,
whose remix receives the most individual votes, will be contacted by telephone
or by e-mail on September 14, 2006 following the close of the vote, to be
awarded the Grand Prize. The finalist selected to be the Grand Prize winner
shall have previously returned the attestation and release document as more
fully detailed above in this section 3 and at sub-section 5.2 of these rules
and regulations.
4. DESCRIPTION OF PRIZES
Eleven prizes will be awarded among the participants who submitted the ten
best remixes selected by the jury and the voting public, consisting in:
Total prize value: $3,250
Where applicable, the cash prizes cover the rights for the recording, broadcast
and making available by CBC of the winning remixes under the relevant collective
agreement entered into by CBC. Also where applicable, any other uses by
the CBC of the remixes shall be subject to the relevant collective agreement
entered into by CBC.
Prizes will be distributed within ninety (90) days after the prize winners
have been successfully contacted and notified of their prize.
5. GENERAL RULES
5.1 Winners, or their parents or guardians if the winners are minors, shall
agree, if necessary, to have their name and/or picture, including their
photograph, and/or their voices used for advertising purposes related to
this contest, free of charge.
5.2 Winners, or their parents or guardians if the winners are minors, shall
sign a document attesting to their eligibility as stipulated in paragraph
2 of these rules and releasing CBC and its affiliates, as well as its directors,
officers and employees, from all liability for any damage or loss arising
from participation in this Contest or from the awarding, acceptance or use
of the prize.
5.3 The prize shall be accepted as is and may not be sold nor transferred.
No substitutions will be allowed.
5.4 If the prize cannot be awarded as described in these rules, CBC and
its affiliates, as well as its directors, officers and employees, reserves
the right to substitute a prize or prize component with another of comparable
value.
5.5 Refusal to accept the prize releases CBC and its affiliates, as well
as its directors, officers and employees, of any obligation toward the winner.
5.6 Should a participant, winner or finalist make any false statement, they
shall be automatically disqualified from the contest.
5.7 CBC and its affiliates as well as its directors, officers and employees,
shall assume no liability resulting from losses, delays, mistaken addresses
on mail or e-mail received, misdirected entries, typographical errors, technical,
computer or telephone malfunctions, loss or theft of computer or telephone
data, damage to software or computer equipment, fraudulent calls or any
other mistake.
5.8 CBC and its affiliates, as well as its directors, officers and employees,
shall assume no liability whatsoever for any situation in which their inability
to act results from an event or situation beyond their control, including
a strike, lockout or any other labour dispute at their location or the locations
of the organizations and businesses whose services are used to hold this
Contest.
5.9 All personal information, such as your name, address, telephone numbers,
e-mail address and age is collected solely for the purposes of administering
this contest and shall not be used for any other purpose without your consent.
By providing this information, you consent to it being used for the stated
purposes.
5.10 By entering, participants agree to abide by the Contest rules which
shall be applied by the CBC. All its decisions are final.
