Brünnhilde is one of the
Valkyriesand the
favourite daughter of
Wotan. After she defies
her father’s wishes and
defends Siegmund in his
battle with Hunding, she is
stripped of her immortality
by Wotan. He puts Brünnhilde
into an enchanted sleep and
has Loge surround her with a
magical fire that only the bravest
of heroes can penetrate. She
is one of the key figures in the
Ring Cycle and appears in three of
the four operas.
