Way back in 2008, in the very first season of The Next Chapter, Shelagh spoke with Monica Kidd about her book Any Other Woman: An Uncommon Biography. At the time, Monica was living in St. John's and studying medicine. A lot has changed for Monica Kidd in the last five years.
Monica made it through med school and is now officially a family physician. She also became a mother -- three times over -- and she moved from St. John's to Calgary, where she now lives with her family.
But perhaps most germane to our show, though, is that Monica recently published her fifth book, a collection of poems called Handfuls of Bone.
Shelagh and Monica had a wide-ranging conversation. They discussed everything from Amelia Earhart and motherhood to nautical disasters and the place of the arts in medicine. Monica also read a handful of poems and her readings stopped us in our tracks. We hope you enjoy this extended version of Shelagh's conversation with Monica Kidd.
